Applicants in pre-modern humanities are encouraged to apply, as are applicants in contemporary social sciences. Priority will be given to those candidates who have had no previous postdoctoral fellowships.
Candidates must be able to provide evidence of successful completion of their PhD degree by June of the year of appointment and may not be more than five years beyond receipt of the PhD. Applicants who are not native speakers of English must include the date and score of the most recent TOEFL examination or other evidence of proficiency in English (such as a letter from an academic advisor or a degree from a US university).

Fellows are expected to reside in the Cambridge vicinity during the time of their award and to actively participate in the events and the intellectual life of the Center. Fellows are expected to contribute to the greater Harvard community by teaching, mentoring, or advising students.
