Bibliothèque du manga à l’université de Pékin
BEIJING – A library designed for learning about Japanese culture through the country’s manga has opened at Peking University in Beijing.
The library, a joint establishment by the university and Japan’s Meiji University as part of their academic cooperation, began service on Friday.
Meiji University plans to present some 20,000 manga comics to the library by March 2015. The two universities further plan to organize exhibitions and lectures, aiming to make the library a research base on Japanese subculture, as manga and animation grow increasingly popular among younger Chinese generations.
A model of Gundam, a character in a robot animation series, was displayed at the entrance of the new library, located in the building for Peking University’s School of Foreign Languages.
Those attending the opening ceremony included students, officials from both universities, Japanese Ambassador to China Masato Kitera and Peking University Vice President Wu Zhipan.
