The Maryland Series in Contemporary Asian Studies (called Occasional Papers/Reprints Series in Contemporary Asian Studies through 1999), a publication of the East Asian Legal Studies Program at the University of Maryland School of Law, was established in 1977 by Dr. Hungdah Chiu. Since then the journal has been devoted to publishing scholarly articles on the significant political, economic, social, and legal issues concerning the East Asian region, with particular emphasis on China and Taiwan and their relationship with the United States.
